About Us

When Jesus lived on the earth He told His disciples that He would build His church and even the gates of hades would not prevail against it. He then told them that He was going to be killed, but that He would rise again on the third day (Matthew 16:18-20). After He was put to death on the cross and rose from the grave, He appeared to His disciples and told them to go to all the world and preach the gospel beginning from Jerusalem (Matthew 28:18-20).

The gospel is the good news that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and He gave Himself as the sacrifice for sin, so people can be forgiven of their sins and have eternal life with God. This is the message which was taught by the disciples of Jesus beginning from Jerusalem (Acts 2:22-47), and then to the whole world (Colossians 1:23).

The first day the message of the gospel was preached 3,000 people were baptized into Christ for the forgiveness of their sins (Acts 2:38-41). These believers in Christ devoted themselves to the apostles’ doctrine, fellowship, the breaking of bread and prayer (Acts 2:42). As they continued to preach the gospel, the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved (Acts 2:47).

In every city where the gospel was preached the Christians met together to learn the word of God, to worship and to encourage one another in the faith. The book of Acts tells about the growth of the church and how congregations of Christians were established in every city.

Other books in the New Testament are letters which were written to some of the first congregations to instruct all Christians how to live for the Lord, to worship and to work together. Throughout the many centuries since that time, the gospel of Jesus Christ has been proclaimed and Christians have continued to work together as the churches of Christ (Romans 16:16)

Today, there are churches of Christ in most countries throughout the world and in every state in the United States. There are thousands of congregations with millions of members. Some congregations are small with just a few members. Others are large with several thousand members.

The Lawrenceburg church of Christ is a congregation of Christians who love the Lord and love one another. We proclaim Jesus Christ as both Lord and Savior, because we know that eternal salvation is only through Him (Acts 4:13). As Christians we rely upon each other for encouragement and spiritual upliftment. As the Lord has instructed us, we meet together on a regular basis to study God’s Word, to worship, and to fellowship.

We pattern our worship, teachings and lives after the teachings and examples designated in the Bible. We are not part of any religious denomination. We are just Christians loving and serving the Lord together. We believe the church needs to be “one body in one Spirit with one hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all” (Ephesians 4:4-6).

Our Lord Jesus Christ earnestly prayed that His disciples might be perfected in unity so the world would come to know the love of God (John 17). We hope you will come and unite with us through Jesus Christ our Lord.

We believe our primary purpose is to reach out and touch the lives of people eternally by teaching them about God’s saving grace through Jesus Christ, and the abundant life they can find in the Lord’s kingdom. We would love the opportunity to talk with you about how you can develop a closer relationship with the Lord and be part of our church family.
