The Lawrenceburg church has been blessed with Godly men who have served with dignity and love as our shepherds. They are Steve Kirby and Bobby Russell.
As directed by the New Testament, the Lawrenceburg church of Christ is led by elders who act as shepherds (or elders) of the spiritual flock. These men are selected by the local congregation on the basis of traits found in the scriptures (Titus 1:5-16 & 1 Timothy 3:1-7).
The shepherds (also known as elders, bishops, pastors or overseers) serve under the headship of Christ. They are to seek, in all matters, the mind of Christ, through the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. They are to teach and exhort the Christians whom they are among in sound doctrine and refute those who contradict the truth.
Elders are to lead by example and provide instruction for “equipping the saints for the work of ministry” as well as provide the edification needed for healthy relationships within the congregation (Ephesians 4:11-12). They appoint deacons or ministers as necessary to accomplish the mission of the church.
…shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness; nor yet as lording it over those allotted to your charge, but proving to be examples to the flock. 1 Peter 5:2-3
